The new gallery blends together the worlds of art and design
Established by Sirimada, Piyasak and Sutthiluk Supaongprapa, the same team behind contemporary furniture label Wurkon, Xspace is a new gallery blending together the traditionally segregated spheres of art and design. The venture is also bringing together allies Joyman Gallery, Artist+Run and VS Gallery, offer them an integrative place where different disciplines meet and synthesise endless possibilities.
Making its official mark, Xspace is unveiling its first exhibition, Xspace The Xhibition, a compilation of three different sub-showcases. Here’s what to expect.
Rough is a photography exhibition by Supachai Ketkaroonkul. Presenting a series of abstract colours and textures, the collection is a meditation on time through different surfaces. From dilapidated buildings to the surfaces of different objects, Supachai conveys his subject with his 135mm film camera.
A group exhibition between eight artists and designers, Human Relativity addresses relation and relativity in the contemporary age. Thaiwijit Puengkasemsomboon, Santi Lawrachawee, Sanitas Pradittasnee, Maythee Noijinda, Surachai Mawornkanong, Gumsak Atipiboonsin, Temjai Cholsiri and Adiwit Ansathammarat come from different industries yet share synchronicity as creators. The paintings, photography, sculptures and furniture go well alongside one another, proving true that design and art shouldn’t be separated.
Piti Amraranga and Jutamas Buranajade, AKA the o-d-a duo, are reinterpreting the ‘Wing’ chair from Spanish furniture brand Actiu to fit with Thai society. The installation follows the aesthetic and the utility of the object to understand Thainess.
Xspace is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 5pm. The Xhibition will be on until February 28, 2021. Visit xspace.gallery or follow fb.com/Xspaceartgallery.
