Three anti-establishment protesters being held on remand have harmed themselves again, this time using wire mesh from windows to slash their hands and arms, apparently out of frustration and stress over not being granted bail, according to the Thai Lawyers for Human Rights (TLHR).
The three detainees, Baiboon “Ohm” Thaipanich, Puttipong Somboon and Nueng, are also infected with COVID-19, said TLHR, adding that they are now being treated in the hospital of the Corrections Department and are safe.
TLHR said that Baiboon and Puttipong have harmed themselves before, using the lid of a can.
Wanwalee “Tee” Thamsattaya said in her Facebook post today that she was informed by the Corrections Department’s hospital that Baiboon has been offered counselling by a psychiatrist after he slashed his hand with the mesh.
Seven of the protesters have contracted COVID-19, according to TLHR.
Meanwhile, the Bangkok South Criminal Court was due to decide on the bail application for Natthanich “Bai Por” Duangmusith and Netiporn “Bung” Sanesangkom, who are facing lèse majesté charges. No bail decision has yet been made. Both have been remanded for 65 days and went on a 35-day hunger strike.
