Thaksin begins visit to Chiang Mai

Thaksin Shinawatra arrived in Chiang Mai at 9.30am by his private jet and was welcomed by scores of his supporters, known as red-shirts.

He emerged from the jet wearing sunglasses and a neck support, accompanied by his youngest daughter, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, the leader of the Pheu Thai party.

After arriving in Chiang Mai, Thaksin will visit the Royal Park Rajapruek and then proceed to Mae Kha Canal, to observe on-going dredging.

He will then go to Nong Khiao Reservoir to inspect the construction of a public exercise facility by a local administration organization.

In the evening, he will visit the Mae Sa River in Mae Rim district.

Tomorrow, the former prime minister and his family will pay their respects to the Khruba Siwichai monument before proceeding to Tat Doi Suthep Temple, to pay respects to the deities of Chiang Mai.

Later, the entourage will tour Warorot market, which the Shinawatra family does every time they visit Chiang Mai.  At noon, they will have lunch at the famous egg noodle or “khao soi” Samerjai food shop on Charoenrat Road in downtown Chiang Mai, before proceeding to the Mae On cemetery, to pay respects to Thaksin’s parents, Lert and Yindee.

They will then travel to Rongtham Samakkhi Temple in San Kamphaeng district to make merit for their ancestors and to pay visit to Thaksin’s relatives at the Shinawatra house.

On Saturday, he will have morning coffee at Oasis coffee shop and then proceed to the Night Safari Zoo before returning to Bangkok.
