The Bangkok Election Commission has disqualified one Bangkok gubernatorial election candidate and three city councillor candidates after finding that their qualifications do not meet the legal requirements.
Permanent Secretary of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), Khachit Chatchavanich, in his capacity as director of local elections in Bangkok, named the four disqualified candidates as:
Kraidaj Bunnag, a prospective candidate for Bangkok gubernatorial election. Background checks show that he is the owner, publisher, advertiser and editor of an entertainment magazine, which is against Section 50 (3) of the local council and local administrator election laws.
Adithep Chawla, a prospective candidate for city councillor in Dusit district. He was found to have been domiciled in Bangkok for less than one year, which is against Section 49 (3) of the local council and local administrator election laws.
Perapol Kanokwalai, a prospective candidate for city councillor in Phaya Thai district. He was found to be the owner, publisher, advertiser and editor of a newspaper, which is against the election laws.
Nattawee Paochai, a prospective candidate for city councillor in Bang Na district. She is barred from contesting an election after she was found to have not exercised her voting right at a local election in Chiang Mai province. She was also found to have her registered residence in Bangkok for less than one year.
Khachit said that those who have been disqualified have the right to appeal to the Bangkok Election Commission within three days of the announcement of candidates qualified to contest the May 22nd elections by the Bangkok election director.
The list of qualified and unqualified candidates for both the gubernatorial and city councillor elections is displayed at City Hall and in all 50 district offices and on the website http://office2.bangkok.go.th/ard/
