The Thai cabinet has agreed to extend the state of emergency in most districts of the three restive southern provinces of Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat until September 19th.
Government spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri said that the extension, the 72nd, is intended to facilitate security officials in the performance of their duties, dealing effectively with violent incidents and providing public safety.
In Narathiwat province, the state of emergency is imposed in most districts, except for Si Sakhon, Su-ngai Kolok, Waeng and Sukhirin.
In Pattani province, Betong and Kabang districts are exempted from state of emergency whereas, in Pattani, Yaring, Mayo, Mai Kaen and Mae Lan districts are exempted.
