AirAsia Thailand resumes Bangkok – Hong Kong flights, pilots new China route

In August, Thai AirAsia will resume direct flights between Bangkok and Hong Kong. The airline will also pilot a special flight to Guangzhou in China this month, on July 13.

Thai AirAsia is a joint venture between Thailand’s Asia Aviation and budget Malaysian airline AirAsia.

The airline will operate weekly flights between Bangkok’s Don Muang International Airport and Hong Kong International Airport beginning August 7 this year. The route will increase to twice a week in September and thrice a week in October. Tickets are up for sale AirAsia’s “Super App,” starting from 3,855 baht for a one-way ticket.

Presently, foreign arrivals in Hong Kong must be fully vaccinated, must produce a negative pre-departure Covid-19 test result and are required to quarantine in a state-designated facility for 7 days.

Tickets are also up for sale on the Super App for a pilot roundtrip between Bangkok’s Don Muang International Airport and Guangzhou in China on July 13. The flight is intended to demonstrate the airline’s readiness to fly to and from China once the country announces a full reopening.

AirAsia Thailand Chief Executive Officer Santisuk Klongchaiya commented on the economic potential of the new routes…

“China is Thailand’s number one market for tourists and is home to a large population with high spending power. While the government of China has yet to fully allow foreign tourists, the relaxation of some measures has allowed the airline to restart its service and signals recovery for the country’s economy and tourism sector. AirAsia reaffirms its adherence to established stringent health and safety protocols,”

“These two initial routes provide us an opportunity to welcome visitors to Thailand, which is already a very popular destination that many travelers from China and Hong Kong have been highly anticipating for the past two years. With restrictions further relaxed in Thailand, we have been marketing heavily in China and Hong Kong to tap into these tourism markets to sustain strong recovery post pandemic.”

Hong Kong Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand Naparat Vudhivad also expressed approval of the new routes…

We saw substantial growth of visitors as the Hong Kong government gradually adjusted the quarantine boundaries and travel restrictions since April this year. As we unwind from the pandemic, we realize how much enrichment travel can bring to life and how eager people are to look forward to travelling. We go beyond the New Normal with AirAsia to rebuild the confidence, regenerate the enthusiasm, reignite the passion for travelling and reshape the future of travel. Amazing Thailand is waiting for you.”

Travellers are strongly advised to check the latest entry requirements and restrictions prior to purchasing tickets.
