Various groups have vowed to stage renewed protest rallies at the Democracy Monument, after most of them dispersed late last night (Tuesday), with some choosing to spend the night in front of the police barricades on Ratchadamnoen Nok Road.
The groups announced an end to the protest at about 9.45pm yesterday and then marched and rode motorcycles towards Government House, but were blocked by police who asked them to disperse.
While most did go home, their leaders vowed that they would return to the Democracy Monument this afternoon at about 2pm.
At the Lan Khon Mueang town square, in front of the old City Hall, protest leader Jatuporn Prompan, chairman of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship, told protesters that they would stage another protest this Sunday, at a venue yet to be announced, unless there is an emergency situation.
He told protesters to be patient and not rush Government House.
The protesters set off fireworks at about midnight before they ended the protest and began to disperse.
Fourteen university organisations issued a joint statement yesterday, demanding the immediate resignation of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, claiming that his 8-year term in office ended on August 23rd.
The Constitutional Court is considering the opposition parties’ petition, seeking its ruling on the prime minister’s term in office.
