Paetongtarn Shinawatra, a Pheu Thai prime ministerial candidate, went abroad on Thursday to visit her father Thaksin, saying she misses him a lot.
The mother of two did not reveal to which country she was heading, but Thaksin, a former Thai prime minister who has been a fugitive from Thai justice for about 16 years, is believed to be in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
Paetongtarn posted photos of herself at a Bangkok airport, with her husband; Pidok Suksawas, at her side.
The youngest child of Thaksin gave birth to her second child, a boy, earlier this month, during her election campaign for Pheu Thai. She wrote on Instagram that she has left her young children with their grandmother for two days.
“I miss their grandfather very much, I have not seen him for long time, but I already miss my children. What mixed feelings I have!”
Some of her supporters asked her to take their kind regards to Thaksin.
Her trip to visit her father comes as Pheu Thai and Move Forward, a core coalition parties, are engaging in a battle for the position of House speaker.
