Petitions demanding dissolution of Pheu Thai, Move Forward and Palang Pracharath rejected

The political party registrar has rejected three petitions demanding the dissolutions of the Pheu Thai, Move Forward and Palang Pracharath parties.

The first petition was submitted by Sonthiya Sawasdee, a former member of the House Committee on Justice and Human Rights Affairs, demanding the dissolution of the Pheu Thai party, claiming that it allows an outsider to dominate the party, in violation of the Political Parties Act.

The second, also submitted by Sonthiya, demands the dissolution of the Move Forward party, claiming that the political rallies it organised in several provinces, as well as the rally in front of parliament on July 13th, constitute a violation of the Political Parties Act.

The third, submitted by political activist Aekachai Hongkangwan, demands the dissolution of the Palang Pracharath party, claiming that it has failed to implement several policies promised during the 2019 election campaign.

Sawaeng Boonmee, secretary general of the Election Commission, who is also the political party registrar, said today (Wednesday) that the visit to fugitive former prime minister Thaksin and Yingluck Shinawatra in Hong Kong late last year by Paetongtarn, head of the Pheu Thai “Family”, and the Pheu Thai website, featuring Thaksin’s opinion and reference to Paetongtarn’s remark on January 15th about bringing Thaksin back to Thailand, are not sufficient proof that the party is being dominated by the former prime minister.

As for the second petition, regarding the Move Forward party, Sawaeng said the evidence presented is not strong enough to prove that the party has violated the Political Parties Act.

For Aekachai’s petition, he said the evidence presented is too weak to prove that the party has failed to fulfil its campaign pledges.
