Vistara launches new nonstop Thailand – India route

Vistara Airlines is launching nonstop flights between Mumbai and Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport 5 times per week, starting next month on August 5. Vistara’s 3 cabin Airbus A320neo aircraft will operate the route on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

The new route is the airline’s second service to the Thai capital. In August 2019, Vistara launched direct flights between Delhi and Bangkok. The route was temporarily suspended during the pandemic but resumed with increased frequencies in March this year.

CEO of Vistara Vinod Kannan said Thailand is a popular tourist destination among Indians…

“Thailand remains one of the most preferred tourist destinations for Indians and we are excited to commence flights between Mumbai and Bangkok… There is huge potential for a full-service carrier like Vistara on this route.”

Vistara will become the 5th airline currently operating the route. IndiGo and Thai Airways offer daily Mumbai – Bangkok flights and Air India flies the route twice per week. Thai Lion Air also connects Mumbai to Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport.

The service aims to facilitate ever-growing Indian travel to Thailand. India has become Thailand’s biggest target market in terms of tourism, especially since Thailand is seeing far less Chinese visitors due to ongoing pandemic-related travel restrictions.

In the first half of this year, more tourists from India entered Thailand than from any other country in the world. Of the 2.2 million tourists who arrived in Thailand so far this year, over 10% of them have come from India, according to Thailand’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration.
