Tourist entry charge delayed until Q4

The Tourism and Sports Ministry yesterday revealed that they need more time before the 300 baht tourism fee is introduced.

The tourism fee was penciled in for discussion at this week’s cabinet meeting but the ministry withdrew the proposal.

Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Tourism and Sports Minister, says fee collection for tourists arriving by land requires further study.

“We have to determine if the fee amount should be less than 300 baht because the average length of stay for these visitors is only 1-2 nights.”

Phiphat added the ministry plans to resubmit the proposal to the cabinet within the next two months, and the fee collection will begin 90 days after publication in the Royal Gazette.

The starting date for fee collection is likely to be delayed to Q4 this year or in Q1 2023.

Termination of the Thailand Pass for international visitors from July 1 is on the table for discussion on June 17 between the ministry and the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration.

“Eliminating the Thailand Pass system means tourists don’t have to buy travel insurance anymore, which should help make travel more convenient.”
