The Criminal Court agreed on Thursday to grant monarchy reformist Tantawan Tuatulanon bail for 30 days. Tantawan is charged with l?se majest? and other offences for conducting a poll about royal motorcades and questioning the authorities’ priorities.
With Move Forward Party leader Pita Limjaroenrat supervising her when she is out, to make sure that she complies with the court order, her release comes with conditions, namely that she wears an ankle monitor and remains under house arrest. The court also ordered that Tantawan not to engage in any activities against the Monarchy and banned her from traveling outside the Kingdom.
In the release order, the court stated that Tantawan had expressed remorse by agreeing to follow the bail conditions. Pita, her release supervisor, also has the credibility to do so and the court agreed to release her temporarily for 30 days.
Pita’s petitioning for her release was previously rejected by the court as his MP pay slip was not among the documents submitted as a guarantor.
The 20-year-old activist is charged with royal defamation, resisting officers and violation of the Computer Crimes Act for conducting an opinion poll on royal motorcades on February 8th and for questioning the authorities’ priorities in a live broadcast near a royal motorcade on March 5th.
She has been on remand since April 20th, after her previous bail was revoked. She has also been on hunger strike, protesting her right to bail.
